Shared Care Scotland - Time to Live

Helensburgh & Lomond Carers Centre (HLCC) is thrilled to announce the return of the Time to Live Grant Programme, funded by the Scottish Government and administered by Shared Care Scotland’s Short Breaks programme. This initiative supports unpaid carers by providing flexible short breaks that enhance their quality of life, help sustain their caring role and strengthen their relationship with their cared for.

What is a Short Break?

A short break is all about giving carers time to recharge, try new things, and take a break from daily routines. Whether it’s a short holiday, gym membership, streaming service, pampering session, or cinema passes, this grant allows for a variety of creative options. Carers can also use the funding for joint activities with the person they care for.

Here’s what can be funded:

  • Short holidays or day trips

  • Memberships (gym, clubs, etc.)

  • Relaxation activities like spa days or lessons

  • Tools or equipment for hobbies or outdoor activities

Restrictions: The grant cannot be used for household bills, furniture, white goods, debt, pre-paid holidays, or driving lessons (there may be other grants available for these, please just ask us).

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible:

  1. You must be an unpaid carer. This means providing care to a family member, partner, relative, or friend who needs help due to a long-term condition, disability, mental/physical health issues, or addiction.

  1. Eligible Carers. All unpaid carers are eligible to apply for a TTL grant, including Adult cares, Parent carers and Young carers

  1. You must live in Helensburgh & Lomond.

  1. One application per household per year is allowed.

Parent Carers - In addition to this funding for Parent carers has also been provided to the Family Fund for the Take a Break Scotland (TABS) grants programme, which provides similar microgrants to families caring for disabled children and young people.  Therefore consideration should be given as to whether TABS would be a more appropriate route to receive support/grant.
